Today is election day in Canada and an opportunity for us to exercise a basic democratic right. And regardless of what we may think of our leaders or the number of times we’ve visited polling stations in recent years, it’s important for all of us to make the effort and vote.
I mean, think about how lucky we are to be Canadian. We have the ability to do something that millions of people all over the world are willing to risk their lives and fight for.
Yet we often take the big things for granted and spend our days griping about this, complaining about that and being generally frustrated by minor irritations that may feel important at the time, but in the grand scheme of things, don’t amount to a hill of beans.
Put it this way, if you’re living in Canada, educated, healthy, have a family, friends, a job and most important… freedom – then life is good compared to what most people must endure.
Today, it doesn’t matter whether you choose orange, red, blue, the other blue or green or some other colour mix when you vote. Instead, appreciate all that we do have and that we don’t have to protest to get certain inalienable rights.
