There are some ideas you just know will fly (or twirl).

And when I hear about one of those, I always get excited imagining the possibilities. And then, if it’s really a standout idea, I get a twinge of envy, too – as in: I wish I’d thought of that…

That’s the case with the PR Baton, a new initiative created by Dana Hughens and the Clairemont Communications team.

It’s a wonderfully simple concept that helps bring our profession to life and tell a visual story about what we do.

Showing the world what a day in #PR looks like one photo at a time. PR pros come together in an Instagram photo relay that offers a play by play pictorial of what it takes to make it in the PR biz.

Visual storytelling is such an important skill and one the PR profession needs to understand and master – fast. And the PR Baton is a great step in that direction, encouraging us to get out there and publicly tell our stories in pictures (first) and then words.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure and honour of carrying the torch – er baton – and had a blast.

My day started with snow, coffee and a video and ended with cookies and a candy cane. How does that fit into PR? You’ll have check out the PR Baton Instagram feed to see.  Though, by the time you read this, Lisa Gerber will be off and running.

If you’re in PR, curious about what PR looks like from the inside or simply want a picture of a writer’s take on the world, follow PR Baton on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or on the blog.

Hopefully, you’ll like what you see so much that you’ll sign up and take it for a whirl, join the profession or both.

Personally, I can’t wait till my next turn comes around. Till then – my advice to anyone who takes the baton is ‘keep it visual and carry on…’

What do you think about the PR Baton? Are you interested in joining the relay?
