For the last two years, I’ve been president of the board of CPRS Toronto, an organization I continue to support and believe in. I’m coming to the end of my tenure and wanted to share my (almost) parting thoughts (originally published in the May eblast):
And now, the end is near… and so I face… OK – enough of that. I guess it’s my way of saying I can’t believe this is the last eblast I will be writing as CPRS Toronto president. The two years have gone by very quickly. At least they have for me; and I hope you’ve felt the same. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all the members and to the board for a wonderful and rewarding term. And a special thank you to Lois Marsh without whom…
I’ve enjoyed meeting, working with and getting to know many of you and am excited to continue that in my new ex-officio role. When I took over from Lawrence Stevenson, APR, we were in the throes of a recession that left its mark on virtually all of us. We were also in the midst of a communications revolution – we still are, and if you’re interested in reading more about it, please check out Clay Shirky’s eye-opening book, Here Comes Everybody. It’s safe to say that many of the old standards we relied on were being supplanted by a more two-way, social form of engaging and building relationships. It has changed and continues to change our profession and it’s exciting to be part of that and have a front-row seat.
Along those lines, I’m happy to say that CPRS Toronto will have a new website very soon that’s in keeping with our new reality. We also have a talented and committed board for 2011/12 that includes some veterans and new members and will be led by Vince Power, APR, your incoming president. I want to welcome them and wish them all the best. And now – here’s to the immediate future and the next CPRS President… Vince… You’re up!
Looking forward to seeing you at the AGM.
